Smallwood's work delves into the complexities of reality, exploring themes of paradox, symbolism, and the profound connections that bind us together as humans. Focusing on the individual, community, and nature, his art stands as a powerful counterpoint to nihilism, celebrating the richness of existence. Smallwood's innovative approach has garnered significant recognition, with exhibitions and publications both in the United States and internationally. His accolades include the prestigious 2021 Aperture Portfolio Prize and the 2021 Daylight Photo Awards. His work has been featured by esteemed publications such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, FT Magazine, Love Magazine, and Perfect Magazine.
