Bio

Benjamin Madgwick’s artistic journey began in the most unexpected of places: observing his mother’s ritualistic makeup application as a young boy. This intimate glimpse into the transformative power of beauty sparked a lifelong fascination with fashion and identity, igniting a creative flame that continues to burn brightly. Madgwick's work is a captivating exploration of the human form, where he masterfully intertwines the intricacies of facial expression and body language. His images resonate with an alluring dynamism, inviting viewers to engage with the profound beauty that lies within each subject. For him, the camera serves not as a barrier, but as a conduit—a means through which he channels emotion, directs narratives, and shapes character. Initially setting out on a path in graphic design and illustration, it was during a pivotal year between college and university that Madgwick discovered his true calling in photography. After earning a degree in Photography from Reading University, he dedicated himself to freelance work, honing his craft alongside some of the industry’s most respected names, including Peter Lindbergh, Liz Collins, Emma Summerton, Matthew Brookes, and Miles Aldridge, with whom he spent an intensive three and a half years as a first assistant. Madgwick’s passion for gymnastics, yoga, and dance informs his visceral approach to physicality on set, allowing him to cultivate an atmosphere of intimacy and movement that translates beautifully into his imagery. With an impressive portfolio that boasts collaborations with renowned brands such as Clinique, YSL, Dior, NARS, Paper London, and prestigious publications like Harper’s Bazaar and L’Officiel, Madgwick is poised to expand his already illustrious client list. He is also driven by a desire to inspire the next generation of photographers, aiming to publish a photography book that ignites creativity and encourages aspiring artists to explore the world through their lenses.
