Bio

At the age of 15, I experienced a life-altering event that would shape my artistic journey: a knife attack motivated by the prejudices of my attacker against punk culture. When I received the first installment of government compensation, I instinctively knew how to invest it: in my passion for photography. By the time I turned 18 and received the remainder of the funds, I fully committed to this path, purchasing a professional set of cameras and lenses. From that pivotal moment onward, photography became my unwavering focus and a powerful means of self-expression. It allowed me to channel my deep-seated interests in politics and social justice. Studying photojournalism in the 1980s provided me with the tools to articulate my beliefs and values through a visual language that resonates with others. I immersed myself in documenting significant social movements, capturing powerful imagery at anti-apartheid protests, anti-nuclear demonstrations, the miners' strike, and the pivotal picket lines at Wapping. Through my lens, I aspire to depict the intricate tapestry of contemporary life, illustrating how each action evokes a reaction and emphasizing that every moment is laden with meaning and consequence. My work seeks not only to document but to provoke thought and inspire change, reflecting the interconnectedness of our shared human experience.
