Chieska Fortune Smith, Photographer, London

About

This black and white portrait by photographer and director Chieska Fortune Smith captures a Black man seated in profile while playing an upright piano. He is wearing a patterned textured suit jacket over a light collared shirt and a wristwatch, with his hands positioned mid-stride across the piano keys. The high-contrast monochromatic grading emphasizes the grain and textures of his attire and the vintage piano instrument. The composition is tightly framed, focusing on his concentrated expression and the expressive movement of his hands on the keyboard. Natural dramatic lighting accentuates the contours of his face and the gleaming surface of the keys against a dark interior background.
