About

This monochrome photograph by photographer Balazs Gardi captures an astronaut in a full-body pressure suit and helmet standing in an expansive, flat arid landscape. The subject is smiling and raising a gloved hand in a wave, with tangled parachute rigging and canopy fabric pooling on the ground behind them. The sparse, scrub-dotted terrain extends toward a distant horizon under a pale sky. High-contrast lighting accentuates the complex mechanical details, straps, and hardware of the heavy flight suit.
