W Magazine marks the start of the 2025 awards season with its annual Best Performances issue. This extensive portrait series, shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, highlights a diverse array of cinematic talent through a collection of high-contrast editorial covers. Under the creative direction of Charles Levai and Kevin Tekinel and the editorial guidance of Editor-in-Chief Sara Moonves, the project oscillates between stark, minimalist studio portraits and richly textured, stylized environments. The aesthetic language of the issue employs bold, expressive typography that interacts with the subjects, ranging from high-key monochrome compositions to warm, vibrant interiors and outdoor settings. With fashion styling led by Law Roach, the series captures performers such as Nicole Kidman, Tilda Swinton, Zendaya, and Paul Mescal in distinct, character-driven ensembles, emphasizing the intersection of high fashion and contemporary media portraiture.
