The Face China
COMME des GARÇONS

Aug 2026
The Face China reimagines the boundaries of luxury fashion in this expansive editorial campaign, centered on the avant-garde spirit of Comme des Garçons. Captured through the lens of photographer Kin Chan Coedel, the series presents a profound exploration of silhouette, texture, and light, positioning the human form as an architectural canvas. Each frame leans into a cinematic aesthetic, utilizing a mix of low-key chiaroscuro lighting and ethereal beauty light to emphasize the structural complexity of voluminous garments, ranging from sheer tulle and quilted capes to intricate, sculptural headpieces. The photography channels a surreal, cosmic atmosphere through techniques such as double-exposure and motion blur, often grounding the high-fashion narratives against minimalist studio backgrounds or evocative, hazy landscapes. By blending traditional fashion editorial sensibilities with artistic, live-action techniques and nuanced VFX, the project elevates the garments beyond mere apparel into the realm of abstract art. The monochromatic palettes and high-contrast visuals are punctuated by deliberate bursts of color, creating a rhythmic, atmospheric journey that feels both timeless and avant-garde. This body of work serves as a testament to the power of deliberate, moody lighting and experimental composition, consistently highlighting the dialogue between the rigid, sculptural quality of the clothing and the fluid, expressive potential of the subject.
