A Fresh Coat is a fashion editorial series for T: The New York Times Style Magazine, captured by photographer Bilal El Kadhi. The project explores layered outerwear and tailored silhouettes, utilizing both natural light and dramatic chiaroscuro to define the collection’s textures. The series features styling by Sasha Kelly, who incorporates a mix of trench coats, patterned knitwear, and sharp tailoring to build the editorial narrative. Casting direction by Nicola Kast brings depth to the portraits, with models Abdou Ndoye and Mumin Jangani appearing throughout the work. Technically diverse, the project transitions between clean, minimalist studio settings and gritty, atmospheric urban environments. The use of analogue film techniques and warm directional lighting serves to ground the high-fashion aesthetic within a cinematic, lived-in context.
