Numero Netherlands
FIRE AND ICE by Benjo Arwas

May 2026
In the striking editorial series FIRE AND ICE, photographer Benjo Arwas transforms the pages of Numero Netherlands into a high-fashion theater of tension and tactile contrast. Collaborating with fashion editor and stylist Shalev Lav’an and makeup artist Lilly Keys, Arwas leans into a cinematic visual language that explores the volatile interplay between heat and cold. The project centers on a series of moody, low-key portraits and surreal still lifes, where shimmering metallic sequins and ornate gold jewelry collide with ephemeral elements like melting ice, flickering match flames, and organic fruit. Using studio strobe techniques and a dramatic chiaroscuro lighting scheme, the team creates an atmosphere that is at once intimate and intensely stylized. Whether capturing a model adorned in vibrant red feathers or framing the surreal intersection of a stiletto heel and studded apples, the imagery maintains a cohesive aesthetic that feels both raw and rigorously curated. Through the use of analogue-inspired textures and rich, saturated color palettes, Arwas constructs an evocative narrative that challenges traditional fashion photography tropes. The result is a bold, high-contrast exploration of desire and defiance, where the deliberate juxtaposition of textures—from the plushness of textiles to the sharp edge of metallic accents—solidifies the project as a masterclass in modern, editorial minimalism.
