For The Peel, an editorial project featured in METAL Magazine, photographer Yulia Plakhotnikova explores the intersection of human form and tactile artifice. The series utilizes macro photography and natural light to document a series of surreal, sculptural portraits that lean into raw, organic textures. Across the collection, the imagery incorporates subtle mixed-media elements—including pressed flowers, fibrous overlays, and intricate body modifications—to manipulate the visual plane. The work employs techniques such as prism-lens distortion and low-key chiaroscuro lighting, resulting in an abstract and intimate study of surface and persona.
