L'Officiel USA
Open For Business

In Open For Business, L'Officiel USA pushes the boundaries of the traditional fashion editorial by transforming luxury handbags into unlikely vessels for professional and personal tools. Photographed by Pía Riverola, the series offers a witty, subverted take on the carryall, reimagining the designer bag not merely as a status symbol but as an extension of the wearer’s identity and vocation. Through a masterclass in editorial styling by Sachiko Earlene Clyde, viewers are invited into a series of surreal vignettes where leather totes and quilted clutches are filled with everything from industrial drafting calipers and conductor batons to hair styling implements and gardening shears. The project leans into a clean, graphic aesthetic, utilizing studio strobe lighting to emphasize the juxtaposition between the soft, tactile surfaces of high-end leather and the rigid, functional edges of the tools within. With contributions from set designer Caz Slattery, the images maintain a crisp, minimalist focus that allows the eccentric narratives to take center stage. By blending lifestyle elements with commercial polish, Riverola captures a series of portraits and still lifes that feel both irreverent and elevated. Whether it is a dog-walker’s handbag or a florist’s basket, the work celebrates the interplay between professional practice and personal style, creating a high-fashion tableau that feels remarkably grounded despite its whimsy.
