Business & Pleasure

Business & Pleasure for Harper's Bazaar UK is a masterclass in editorial minimalism, seamlessly blending the structured precision of high fashion with a playful, avant-garde sensibility. Through the lens of photographer Anya Holdstock, the project explores the interplay between soft, organic textures and hard, industrial environments. Each portrait leans into a graphic aesthetic, utilizing clean, high-key studio environments and a balanced mix of studio strobe and natural light to emphasize the tactile quality of the garments. Under the creative direction and styling of Sophie Van Der Welle, the narrative bridges the gap between everyday ease and high-fashion luxury. The visual storytelling is elevated by the precise hair styling of Tomi Roppongi and the clean, polished makeup artistry of Adele Sanderson, both of which allow the model, Nadine Kirilova, to inhabit a variety of silhouettes—from oversized faux-fur and dramatic millinery to delicate lace and vibrant, voluminous textiles. By juxtaposing stark white backgrounds and minimalist concrete surfaces with bold splashes of red and intricate prints, the project reads as a sophisticated study in contrast and composition. The resulting imagery captures a modern, elevated mood that is both intentional and effortless, perfectly aligning with the magazine's reputation for refined, directional fashion content that pushes the boundaries of contemporary editorial style.
