Domestic Troubles, an editorial feature for Double Magazine, serves as a masterclass in the intersection of mid-century nostalgia and contemporary surrealism. Under the creative direction of Fabrice Paineau, the project unfolds as a series of staged domestic vignettes that subvert the traditional lifestyle shoot. Captured through the lens of photographer Dexter Lander, the series leans into a distinct retro aesthetic, utilizing 35mm film, studio strobe lighting, and high-key textures to elevate mundane settings into conceptual art. Fashion editor and stylist Charlotte Collet anchors the visual narrative, weaving period-accurate silhouettes—such as voluminous 1960s beehive updos, impeccably executed by hair stylist Ramona Eschbach and makeup artist Celine Martin—with jarring, surreal props. Whether it is a subject posed alongside an oversized metallic ceiling fan or a model wearing a sculptural stove costume, the project challenges the viewer's perception of domesticity. The casting, overseen by Gabrielle Lawrence, features models including Fanny Patarin and Luna Tessel, whose deadpan expressions and poised physicality deepen the series' enigmatic, cinematic mood.
