Behind the Blinds
Under the Skin

Aug 2026
In the latest editorial showcase for Behind the Blinds, titled Under the Skin, photographer Laurent Humbert strips back the layers of luxury fashion to focus on the raw, tactile connection between garment and skin. This series of monochromatic portraits leans into a minimalist aesthetic, utilizing a clean, neutral studio backdrop to place the model, Paolo Borle, at the absolute center of the frame. By prioritizing form and structure, the project navigates the intersection of commercial polish and intimate, cinematic character study. Humbert expertly employs natural light and soft light techniques, which dance across the textures of canvas totes, knitwear, and denim to reveal their materiality in high relief. The work is marked by a deliberate restraint; the absence of color forces the viewer to engage with the subtle interplay of light and shadow, leaning heavily into low-key or chiaroscuro styles to define the model's physique. With grooming precision provided by hair stylist Frederic Kebbabi and makeup artist Steven Canavan, the result is a masterclass in editorial storytelling that feels both timeless and contemporary. The project succeeds by eschewing over-production in favor of authentic posture and steady gaze, transforming everyday wardrobe essentials into subjects of high-end interest. Through a balance of film-inspired framing and modern digital precision, Under the Skin presents a stark, beautiful exploration of the human figure, proving that true luxury resides in the details.
