Yoshiyuki Matsumura, originally from Osaka, Japan, has made a remarkable transition to the vibrant art scene of New York following his graduation from Osaka University of the Arts. His artistic vision is deeply influenced by the groundbreaking works of contemporary American photographers such as Robert Frank and Stephen Shore, which inspired him to embark on a compelling documentary series chronicling his journeys across the diverse landscapes of the United States. In 2014, Matsumura took a bold step in his career by self-publishing "AMERICAN SAMPLES," a captivating visual narrative that captures the essence of his annual train trips from the East to the West Coast. This marked the beginning of an impressive publishing journey, with a total of ten books to his name, each reflecting his unique perspective and artistic sensibility. Currently, Matsumura is expanding his creative horizons through documentary projects and collaborations with esteemed fashion brands, blending his photographic expertise with the dynamic world of fashion. His work has garnered recognition in prestigious publications, including M Le Monde, Vogue Ukraine, Vogue Homme Paris, L’Officiel US, GQ US, GQ Paris, Hero magazine, Heroine magazine, Mr. Porter, Pleasure Garden magazine, and Numero Homme, establishing him as a significant voice in contemporary photography. With each new project, Matsumura continues to explore and redefine the boundaries of visual storytelling.
