Bio
Yohey Horishita is an acclaimed Korean-Japanese illustrator and dedicated , boasting over a decade of professional experience that shapes his vibrant artistic voice. His illustrations, known for their intricate detail and dynamic compositions, emerge from a rigorous ideation process that prioritizes clarity and purpose. Grounded in a robust design foundation, Horishita masterfully blends traditional pen-and-ink techniques with contemporary digital coloring, viewing illustration as a powerful visual language through which he articulates clients' visions in unforgettable ways. Born and raised in southern Japan, Horishita's journey led him to Jacksonville, Alabama, and eventually to Atlanta, Georgia, where he earned both his BFA and MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Following his graduation, he embarked on a professional career in the vibrant art scene of New York. As a queer immigrant, Horishita navigated the complexities of identity and culture, ultimately realizing the profound influence of personal heritage on his creative work. This insight fuels his desire to infuse diverse perspectives into his commercial illustrations. Currently residing in Baltimore, MD, Horishita serves as a full-time professor in the Illustration Department at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he inspires the next generation of artists. His work has garnered recognition from esteemed publications and competitions, including the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, 3×3 Magazine, and American Illustration. In 2012, he was celebrated as one of CMYK Magazine's top New Creatives 100, and in 2014, he received two Gold Circle Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Through his artistry and teaching, Horishita continues to make a significant impact on the field of illustration.
