Bio
Yasu + Junko, the dynamic conceptual still life photography duo, made waves in 2012 when they were honored with the prestigious PDN 30 award—a testament to their dedication and mastery cultivated over years of collaboration and individual exploration. Hailing from Japan, Yasu’s journey into photography began at a young age. As an enthusiastic amateur field reporter in elementary school, he captured candid moments of friends and family, igniting a lifelong passion for visual storytelling. In contrast, Junko discovered her affinity for photography later in life, stepping into a studio for the first time at age 24 while working alongside renowned still life photographer Kanji Ishii. Their artistic paths converged, leading to an impressive portfolio that boasts collaborations with esteemed publications and brands such as Brides, Martha Stewart Living, Whole Living, Real Simple, and Neiman Marcus. Their creative prowess was further recognized with a coveted 2010 SPD annual award in fashion/beauty. Yasu + Junko continually strive to evoke the perfect mood through their meticulously crafted still images, transforming ordinary subjects into extraordinary visual narratives. Collaboration is at the heart of their creative process, and Yasu + Junko embrace the complexities of teamwork. They approach every project democratically, valuing open communication and mutual respect while keeping egos in check. Their meticulous planning process sets the foundation for each shoot, as they believe preparation is key to achieving their artistic vision. Over the years, they have refined their workflow, learning to navigate challenges with grace and adaptability. Yasu + Junko are driven by a desire to elevate their sensory experiences, finding inspiration beyond the camera lens. In their downtime, Yasu immerses himself in the world of film and music, while Junko indulges in her love for romantic cinema, hiking, and antiquing. Together, they continue to push the boundaries of still life photography, crafting evocative images that resonate with audiences worldwide.
