Wayne Lawrence
Bio
Wayne Lawrence is a distinguished visual artist born in St. Kitts and now based in Brooklyn, whose evocative work draws deeply from the documentary tradition. His artistic practice seeks to illuminate the intricate tapestry of human experience, engaging thoughtfully with themes of community, purpose, and the multifaceted relationship between humanity and both natural and constructed environments. In October 2013, Lawrence published his first monograph, *Orchard Beach: The Bronx Riviera*, through Prestel Publishing, which garnered critical acclaim and was showcased in exhibitions at the Bronx Museum of Art and The FLAG Art Foundation. These presentations highlighted his ability to transform everyday landscapes into poignant narratives reflecting cultural identity. Currently, Lawrence is immersed in the creation of his second book, *Black Blood*, which delves into the vibrant traditions of J’ouvert carnival across the Eastern Caribbean. Through this project, he continues to explore the rich cultural heritage and communal spirit that define these celebrations, further establishing his voice as a vital chronicler of contemporary life.
