Bio

Tim Barber (b. February 5, 1979) is an influential photographer, curator, and designer whose artistic journey has traversed diverse landscapes, from the serene hills of Amherst, Massachusetts, to the vibrant urban tapestry of New York. After nurturing his passion for photography while studying in Vancouver, B.C., Barber's career blossomed as he became the photo editor for Vice Magazine from 2003 to 2005. In 2005, he launched tinyvices.com, an innovative online gallery and image archive that was later transformed into a free app in 2010. This endeavor evolved into time-and-space.tv in 2013, establishing a dynamic community platform for artists to share and showcase their work. Barber's curatorial expertise was on full display when he co-curated the inaugural New York Photo Festival in 2008 alongside notable figures such as Martin Parr of Magnum Photos, Kathy Ryan of The New York Times Magazine, and Leslie Martin from The Aperture Foundation. His influence extended further as he curated and edited a series of five acclaimed monographs published by Aperture Foundation in the same year and founded the independent publishing house TV Books, which operated from 2008 to 2010. Represented by Yuka Tsuruno Gallery in Tokyo, Barber's work has garnered international acclaim, with commercial representation by Supervision. His multifaceted contributions to the art world continue to inspire and shape contemporary photography.
