Bio
Théo Gosselin is a visionary photographer whose work unfolds like a cinematic narrative, capturing the essence of friends as they embark on transformative journeys away from the mundane, seeking the tantalizing yet elusive concept of freedom. Born in 1990 in the coastal town of Le Havre, Normandy, Gosselin's formative years were steeped in the natural beauty of the sea, wind, and forest, accompanied by the resonant sounds of electric guitars echoing through the quiet streets of this northern French city. With a fervent passion for drawing, music, and cinema, he pursued an artistic education, graduating in 2012 as a graphic designer from Amiens. It was during this time that Gosselin discovered photography, a medium that quickly became his life’s calling. His lens seeks to immortalize the simplicity of life—capturing love, the spectrum of human experiences, and the camaraderie of his friends against the backdrop of expansive landscapes. An eternal wanderer, Gosselin traverses and the USA, infusing his art with the rich tapestry of his adventures and the connections he forges along the way. In his work, the truth is found in both the vastness of open spaces and the intimacy of the characters he encounters. Gosselin’s photography often evokes the lyrical quality of poésie bucolique, crafting modern pastoral scenes that resonate with the timelessness of Poussin’s "Et in Arcadia ego," Manet’s "Déjeuner sur l'herbe," or Cézanne’s "Les Grandes Baigneuses." At times, his images pulse with the vibrancy of Bacchanalian festivities reminiscent of Titian, Rubens, or Levêque. More than mere subjects, Gosselin's friends become the heart and soul of his compositions, reflecting an underground lifestyle that navigates the complexities of a post-9/11 and post-AIDS world, where the lines between public and private life blur amidst the pervasive influence of social media. In August 2012, Gosselin expanded his creative horizons by co-directing and starring in his debut motion picture, "Goodbye Horses." This road movie chronicles an epic journey taken by Gosselin and four friends as they traverse 20,000 kilometers across the USA in a van purchased in New York. The film is set to be released in the spring of 2013, offering audiences a glimpse into the spontaneous adventures that define Gosselin's artistic spirit.
