Mona Kuhn is a prominent figure in contemporary photography, celebrated for her profound exploration of the human figure through lens-based media. With over 25 years of experience, Kuhn delves into the physical and metaphysical dimensions of existence, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities of our shared humanity. Her work prompts contemplation, revealing the hidden depths that connect us all. Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969 to German parents, Kuhn relocated to the United States in 1989. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University before honing her craft at the San Francisco Art Institute. An independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, her academic pursuits complement her artistic endeavors, enriching her unique perspective. Since her debut exhibition at Charles Cowles Gallery in Chelsea, New York, in 2001, Kuhn has maintained an unwavering commitment to her artistry, establishing herself as one of the most sought-after contemporary photographers. Her work is featured in prestigious private and public collections across the globe, with representation in galleries throughout the United States, , and Asia. In recognition of her significant contributions to fine art photography, Kuhn received The Stieglitz Award in 2021. She has also shared her expertise as an , occasionally teaching at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Kuhn’s impressive body of work includes several monographs: her debut, *Photographs* (2004), followed by *Evidence* (2007), *Native* (2010), *Bordeaux Series* (2011), *Private* (2014), and *She Disappeared into Complete Silence* (2018/19). In 2018, she collaborated with Stanley/Barker Editions on *Bushes & Succulents*, and in 2021, Thames & Hudson published a comprehensive retrospective titled *Works*. Her latest publication, *Kings Road*, released by Steidl, accompanies a multi-dimensional museum exhibition spanning both Germany and the United States. Kuhn’s work has graced the walls of esteemed institutions, including The J. Paul Getty Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Hammer Museum, Pérez Art Museum Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the Kiyosato Museum in Japan. Her exhibitions have also been featured at iconic venues such as The Louvre in Paris, Le Bal, The Whitechapel Gallery, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, Musée de l’Elysée in Switzerland, Leopold Museum in Vienna, The Polygon Gallery in Vancouver, the Sydneyn Centre for Photography, and the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. Currently residing in Los Angeles, Mona Kuhn continues to push the boundaries of photography, crafting visually stunning narratives that resonate with audiences around the world.
