Mitch Epstein is a renowned photographer whose pioneering work in fine-art color photography since the 1970s has profoundly shaped the medium. Over the past five decades, Epstein has intricately explored America—not only as a geographical entity but as a complex tapestry of ideas and identities. His visually arresting narratives confront urgent political and cultural challenges, encouraging viewers to engage deeply with the multifaceted nature of the nation. In his latest series, *Property Rights*, Epstein delves into the contentious struggles of various communities as they assert their claims to American land. Through his lens, we witness the stark contrasts between those fighting for their livelihoods and heritage, and those driven by the pursuit of wealth and power. Epstein's distinguished body of work is encapsulated in thirteen acclaimed publications, including *Sunshine Hotel* (Steidl/PPP Editions, 2019), *Rocks and Clouds* (Steidl, 2018), *New York Arbor* (Steidl, 2013), and the award-winning *Family Business* (Steidl, 2003), which received the 2004 Kraszna-Krausz Photography Book Award. His influential book *American Power* (Steidl, 2009) garnered the prestigious Prix Pictet in 2011, solidifying his status as a leading voice in contemporary photography. His photographs are held in the collections of several major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern in London, and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art. Beyond photography, Epstein has made significant contributions to the film industry as a director, cinematographer, and production designer for notable films such as *Dad*, *Mississippi Masala*, and *Salaam Bombay!*. He resides in New York with his family, where he continues to create work that challenges and inspires.
