Bio
Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari first joined creative forces in 2009, producing a groundbreaking editorial for W magazine’s annual Art Issue that showcased their shared vision and artistic synergy. This collaboration sparked the inception of Toiletpaper, a visually captivating magazine born from their desire to create unexpected and imaginative imagery. Together with their studio's creative director, Micol Talso, the trio expertly weaves together elements of commercial photography with playful tableaux and surrealist influences, resulting in Toiletpaper—a biannual publication that transcends traditional magazine formats to become an artwork in its own right. Renowned for its high production values and incisive humor, each image is instantly recognizable, reflecting the distinctive artistic identities of its creators. Cattelan and Ferrari have lent their signature style to prestigious publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Wallpaper*, and American Vogue, while also collaborating with high-profile brands like MAC Cosmetics, Nike, and Kenzo, for whom they have developed four innovative campaigns under their creative direction. Maurizio Cattelan, hailing from Padova, Italy, is a provocative artist whose individual practice continually challenges and enriches contemporary art discourse. His thought-provoking works have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions at esteemed institutions, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Pierpaolo Ferrari, a native of Milan, Italy, began his career with remarkable success, capturing the attention of major clients such as Sony, Campari, Heineken, and automotive giants Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW. His dynamic approach to photography complements Cattelan’s artistic vision, establishing the duo as a formidable force in contemporary visual culture.
