Bio
Lily is a gifted photographer whose passion lies in capturing fleeting moments and preserving them through the lens of her beloved Mamiya 645 and Pentax film cameras. Hailing from West London, Lily embraces her rich heritage as a half Dominican, half English artist. Her journey has been profoundly shaped by her experience with hearing loss from an early age, leading her to wear a cochlear implant that transforms sound into a unique, electric experience. Undeterred by these challenges, she became adept at lipreading, showcasing her resilience and determination. Growing up in a vibrant household steeped in the performing arts—her mother is a casting director, her father is a film and stage actor, and her sister is immersed in theatre production—Lily was surrounded by creativity from a young age. It was her photographer godfather who first opened her eyes to the enchanting world of photography. After honing her skills at Bournemouth Arts University, Lily had the privilege of assisting renowned photographer and director Sam Taylor-Johnson, an experience that further refined her artistic vision. For Lily, the tactile nature of shooting on film is irreplaceable. She has an innate ability to chase natural light and authentic settings, allowing her to reveal the truest essence of her subjects. The depth of her portraits often resonates with the intensity of film stills, masterfully weaving character, narrative, and emotion into each frame. This exceptional talent has not gone unnoticed; one of Lily’s portraits has been acquired by The National Portrait Gallery for their permanent collection, cementing her status as a remarkable voice in contemporary photography.
