Bio
Laura Bonnefous is an innovative artist whose mixed-media imagery invites viewers to explore the intricate spaces of both the external environment and her own imaginative landscapes. With a distinct poetic approach, her work weaves together personal narratives and commissioned projects, utilizing the mediums of photography and film to create immersive experiences. Bonnefous draws inspiration from the complex relationships humans forge with contemporary landscapes, as well as the societal transformations that shape our existence. By delving into the mythologies that define humanity, she tenderly reconstructs these themes, crafting metaphorical and personal universes that resonate deeply with her audience. Her artistic practice blurs the lines between painting and sculpture, flirting with abstraction to propose a fresh archeology of modern visual language. Her educational journey in the arts has taken her through renowned institutions, including Beaux-Arts de Paris, Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles, and Gobelins, l’École de l’Image in Paris, where she honed her mixed-media techniques. Bonnefous's work has garnered international acclaim, with exhibitions and residencies across the globe. She has showcased her art in prestigious venues such as 104 in Paris, the Cité Internationale des Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bangkok, Onishi Studio in Japan, and Haute Photographie in Rotterdam, among many others. In 2021, she released her first monograph, "Failles," published by Éditions H2L2, which beautifully encapsulates her series of the same name. The following year, she unveiled her second book, "Kilamba," in collaboration with Louis Vuitton Editions at the Rencontres d'Arles 2022. A celebrated figure in the photography community, Bonnefous was recognized as one of the 30 Under 30 Women Photographers in 2015 and has received numerous accolades, including the Bourse du Talent, the Prix Picto, and the Eyes on Talents prize. Most recently, in 2023, she was awarded the Lens Culture Critics Choice, further solidifying her position as a significant voice in contemporary art.
