Bio
Kristin-Lee Moolman is a visionary Cape Townn photographer and filmmaker whose work embodies the complex tapestry of her upbringing during the pivotal transition from Apartheid to Nelson Mandela’s new Cape Town. This formative experience profoundly influences her artistic narrative, driving her to envision a more Utopian future through her lens. Moolman’s photography delves into Africa's shifting social and political landscape, crafting striking portraits that juxtapose contrasting realities. Her work challenges prevailing stereotypes and idealized representations, instead illuminating powerful new identities that offer rich counter-narratives. Her impressive portfolio includes collaborations with esteemed clients such as British Vogue, Dazed, Double, i-D, M Le Monde, Nataal, Burberry, HBA, and Nike. Moolman has also showcased her work in notable exhibitions, including “Items, Is Fashion Modern” at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, “Being There: Cape Town, A Contemporary Art Scene” at Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and “Soft Criminal” at Red Hook Labs in New York. Looking ahead, she is set to participate in “Utopian Voices” at Somerset House in London in 2026, as well as an exhibition at Cf Hill in Stockholm the same year. Through her art, Kristin-Lee Moolman continues to inspire dialogue and reflection on identity, culture, and the potential for a brighter future.
