Karel Balas, a distinguished French photographer and art director, was born in Avignon in 1967 and now resides in the vibrant city of Paris. With over fifteen years of experience as an art director for esteemed publications such as L’Officiel Homme, Jalouse, Biba, Fooding, DS, and Bag, Balas honed his keen eye for aesthetics before co-founding the innovative magazine Milk with Isis-Colombe Combréas in 2003. A self-taught artist fueled by a deep passion for visual storytelling, Balas naturally transitioned into photography in 2006. His work predominantly focuses on the enchanting world of childhood, where he allows his young subjects the freedom to express themselves, capturing extraordinary moments that resonate with his signature style of ‘Sublime Realism.’ Today, Balas’s impressive portfolio encompasses a wide array of genres, including interiors and portraits, and he contributes to renowned publications such as Milk, Télérama, Elle Décor Italie, and Living. His commercial collaborations feature prestigious brands like Chloé, Dior, Fendi, Kenzo, Lacoste, and Tommy Hilfiger, showcasing his versatility and artistic vision across various mediums.
