Julien Langendorff
Bio
Born in 1982 in Paris, visual artist Julien Langendorff has captivated audiences with his innovative work, showcased in international galleries, art centers, and museums since the mid-2000s. Langendorff's collage practice delves into a rich tapestry of eclectic iconographies—ranging from erotica and occultism to teen magazines, natural history, and religious imagery. Through his poetic reinterpretation of the world, he crafts a symbolist language imbued with elements of dark romanticism, gothic sensitivity, and punk aesthetics. His dynamic approach involves a tactile manipulation of textures, employing tears, creases, and layers of paint as expressive vehicles. Art theorist Nicolas Bourriaud aptly described him as a "dandy of the image," reflecting Langendorff's commitment to a handcrafted methodology that embraces the significance of gesture and even the beauty of accident. A strong connection to music permeates Langendorff's work, serving as both inspiration and environment, which has led to numerous collaborations in this realm. His artistic contributions include album covers, concert posters, and music videos for prominent artists such as Thurston Moore, Zombie Zombie, and events like Calvi On The Rocks and Rock En Seine. Additionally, he has extended his creative endeavors to the realms of press, publishing, and fashion. Langendorff's works are held in esteemed private and public collections, including the agnès b. collection, with whom he has curated several solo exhibitions worldwide, and the collection of the Musée des Abattoirs / FRAC Occitanie Toulouse. Notable clients include Society, Gallimard, Calvi On The Rocks, Thurston Moore, April 77, agnès b., Andrea Crews, Zombie Zombie, L.A. Witch, Rock en Seine, Kitsuné Musique, Libération, Le Fooding, Playboy, Vice, So Foot, and So Film.
