Born in Argentina, Gaspar Noé has woven a rich tapestry of cultural influences throughout his life, spending his formative years in Buenos Aires, New York, and ultimately Paris. It was in the City of Light that he honed his artistic vision, studying philosophy and cinema at the esteemed Louis Lumière. Noé is an audacious filmmaker whose body of work encompasses six feature films and numerous short films, all of which have garnered attention at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. His 39-minute short, *CARNE* (1991), alongside the feature *I STAND ALONE* (1998), a provocative exploration of contemporary Paris, both received accolades at the Critics’ Week, establishing him as a bold new voice in cinema. His groundbreaking feature *IRREVERSIBLE* (2002) presents a haunting and fragmented narrative of love and vengeance, while *ENTER THE VOID* (2007) captivates audiences as a visually stunning, immersive experience set against the vibrant backdrop of Tokyo. The film *LOVE* (2015), a poignant and sensual journey into the complexities of relationships, was celebrated during the Midnight Screenings at Cannes. In 2018, Noé’s film *CLIMAX* was awarded the top prize at Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, further cementing his reputation as a pioneering force in contemporary cinema. His 52-minute work *LUX AETERNA* (2019), created in collaboration with Saint Laurent, debuted in the Official Selection at Cannes, showcasing his distinctive approach to storytelling. Most recently, his feature *VORTEX* (2022) offers a poignant portrayal of an aging couple navigating the intricacies of life within their Paris apartment, a space they have inhabited for decades. As both a director and photographer, Gaspar Noé continuously pushes the boundaries of artistic expression.
