Dorothy Sing Zhang is a boundary-pushing artist whose captivating work resides at the intersection of photography, film, and performance. Drawing inspiration from the conceptual undercurrents of the Pictures Generation movement of 1970s America, her practice explores the intricate relationship between images and their multifaceted roles in our lives. Through her enigmatic visual tableaux, Sing Zhang evokes a rich spectrum of emotional and psychological experiences, inviting viewers to engage with the complexities of perception. A graduate of the renowned Danish film school, Sing Zhang honed her craft under the guidance of acclaimed directors Lars Von Trier, Jørgen Leth, and Thomas Vinterberg. In 2021, she made her directorial debut with *BàBà*, a poignant documentary that premiered at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Quebec. This beautifully shot film chronicles her personal journey as she travels to Geneva to connect with eight siblings she had only recently discovered, delving deep into themes of trauma and love. In addition to her personal projects, Sing Zhang has contributed her lens to prestigious publications such as *A Magazine Curated by*, *Marfa Journal*, and *VOGUE China*. Her artistic endeavors culminated in 2023 with the release of her debut monograph, *Like Someone Alive*, which showcases a compelling series of images developed over the past five years, reflecting her unique vision and dedication to the art of photography. Currently based in London, Dorothy Sing Zhang continues to challenge the conventions of visual storytelling, pushing the limits of photographic production into captivating new territories.
