Bio

Gray is a celebrated international photographer hailing from Cambridge, UK. His artistic journey began at the age of 14, when he spent weekends immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of his father’s record store, Andy’s Records. It was here that Gray first encountered the power of visual storytelling through album covers and video artwork, igniting a lifelong passion for iconic imagery. Influenced by his mother’s career as a vintage fashion dealer, he developed a keen eye for aesthetic detail that would later define his work. Gray’s foray into photography truly blossomed during his university years, under the mentorship of renowned photographic book publisher Stuart Smith. This pivotal experience allowed him to cultivate a strong narrative sensibility through documentary photography, drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking works of Don McCullin and Martin Parr. With a distinctive style of portraiture influenced by the rich history of film, Gray’s career took a significant turn in 2008 when BAFTA commissioned him to document their prestigious awards ceremony. This recognition led to a series of high-profile commissions from major film studios, where he created editorial stories on film sets and crafted striking posters for both film and theatre. His collaborative work with esteemed directors such as Jamie Lloyd, Sam Gold, and Ralph Fiennes further solidified his reputation within the industry. Gray’s remarkable ability to convey emotion and narrative has earned him portrait commissions from prestigious publications including Vanity Fair, Vogue, and Esquire. His enduring fascination with the intersection of fashion and filmmaking resonates throughout his collaborations with leading actors and fashion brands, as well as through his personal projects. In September 2023, Gray unveiled his solo exhibition titled ‘Performance’ at the Leica Gallery in London. This compelling showcase celebrates the intimate connection between photographer and subject, featuring portraits of luminaries such as Robert De Niro, Ronnie Wood, and Monica Bellucci. As a proud Leica ambassador, Gray continues to push the boundaries of portrait photography, captivating audiences with his unique vision and storytelling prowess.
