Bio
Barbara Penhouet (b. 1990, Paris) is an accomplished painter, illustrator, and architect based in Paris. A graduate of the Ecole supérieure d’architecture de Bretagne (ENSAB) in 2013, Barbara spent over six transformative years in Berlin before settling in the vibrant artistic landscape of Paris. Her most recent solo exhibition, "Peau de Silence," took place in Berlin following a two-month residency in Reykjavik, Iceland, during the summer of 2018. With a profound exploration of human interactions and the nuances of solitude, Barbara's work delves into the complexities of intimacy and connection. The theme of "living together" serves as a wellspring of inspiration, driving her to create illustrations that capture individuals in contemplative moments, enveloped in their own thoughts. Barbara's digital illustrations are instantly recognizable for their soft brushwork, vibrant palette of naive colors, and a thoughtful use of negative space. Each piece reflects a deep introspection, inviting viewers to see their own reflections in the faces she portrays. Through her art, Barbara Penhouet masterfully bridges the gap between the individual and the collective experience, making her a significant voice in contemporary visual storytelling.
