Anna Williams
Bio
Anna Williams, a celebrated photographer originally from Richmond, Virginia, honed her artistic vision at the University of the South. Captivated by the transformative magic of photography, she recalls, “The instant I saw the image emerge onto paper in the developer tray, it was like magic.” This early enchantment set the stage for her dynamic career. Upon graduating, Anna embraced a pivotal piece of advice: “If you want to shoot, start assisting.” This guidance propelled her to New York, where she ingeniously transformed a compact East Village bathroom into her personal darkroom. In this creative sanctuary, she collaborated with some of the most renowned commercial photographers of her time, including Stephen Lewis, Bill Abranowicz, and the acclaimed duo Gentl + Hyers. In 2000, Anna's exceptional talent was recognized when she was named one of PDN’s 30 Under 30, marking her emergence as a formidable voice in the industry. Since then, she has cultivated a diverse client base, earning accolades from prestigious organizations such as Communication Arts, the Society of Publication Designers, the PDN Photo Annual, American Photography, and American Photographic Artists. In 2010, Anna launched "The Voracity," an ambitious project that delves into themes of hunger, consumption, and beauty through varied styles and techniques. This ongoing exploration not only challenges her creatively and technically but also fosters collaboration among a vast network of artists, stylists, and designers. Featured in the 2012 Photo District News photo annual, "The Voracity" continues to evolve, serving as a vibrant platform for artistic exploration and innovation. Anna Williams remains a compelling force in the photography world, consistently pushing the boundaries of her craft.
