Anita Calero
Bio
Anita Calero, originally hailing from Colombia, embarked on her journey to the United States four decades ago, bringing with her a rich cultural heritage that continues to influence her artistry. After arriving, she explored a variety of roles, notably spending 15 years as a prop stylist for photo shoots. This immersive experience in the visual arts served as a springboard for her transition to photography, a passion she has passionately pursued for the past 25 years from her loft in Chelsea. Renowned for her exquisite still-life compositions, Anita has collaborated with prestigious clients including De Vera, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Tommy Hilfiger, Uniqlo, and Target, each project reflecting her unique aesthetic vision. Her work seamlessly blends elements of elegance and simplicity, creating captivating narratives through everyday objects. Dividing her time between New York, Colombia, and Barcelona, Anita draws inspiration from diverse cultures and environments, enriching her photography with a global perspective. As noted by The New York Times, “Anita Calero’s kitchen is simple and unadorned, yet quite elegant – rather like Calero herself. Her domestic aesthetic embraces materials both rugged and fine, forms both imperfect and perfect, and objects both humble and luxurious. All are arranged with Calero’s seemingly effortless grace…” This quote encapsulates not only her artistic approach but also her ability to transform the ordinary into extraordinary, making her a distinctive voice in contemporary photography.
