Andre D. Wagner is a visionary photographer and director based in Brooklyn, New York, whose work captures the poetic and lyrical complexities of everyday life. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant pulse of city streets, diverse neighborhoods, lively parades, and the dynamic youth of the twenty-first century, Wagner employs a visual language that resonates deeply with contemporary audiences. His practice is rooted in the rich tradition of street photography, where he thoughtfully examines the American social landscape through the lenses of race, class, cultural identity, and community. A dedicated artist, Wagner develops his own black and white negatives and crafts exquisite silver gelatin prints in his personal darkroom, ensuring that each image reflects his unique artistic vision. His compelling photographs have graced the pages of prestigious publications, including The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Cut, W Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Time Magazine, and Vogue. Notably, he contributed to the iconic key art and promotional imagery for the acclaimed film Queen & Slim, further establishing his presence in the visual narrative of contemporary culture. Wagner's work has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions and group shows across major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and North Carolina. In 2017, he published his first monograph, Here For the Ride, through Creative Future, which received critical acclaim. Currently, he is engaged in the meticulous editing of a significant eight-year project titled New City, Old Blues, which promises to offer new insights into the evolving urban experience.
