Mann (b. 1991) is a distinguished Cape Townn photographic artist renowned for her intimate portraiture that delves into the collaborative nature of image-making. Through her lens, she seeks to empower her subjects, crafting projects that unfold over extended periods to yield rich and nuanced representations. This commitment to depth and engagement is a hallmark of her artistic practice. Her work has garnered international acclaim, with exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Red Hook Labs (New York), the Unseen Photo Fair (Amsterdam), The National Portrait Gallery and Somerset House (London), the International Centre of Photography (New York), and Manchester Art Gallery. Mann has also showcased her talent at major art fairs, including the 1:54 African Art Fair and Paris Photo Fair. Mann's personal and commissioned projects have been featured in prominent publications such as The Guardian, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Artsy, The British Journal of Photography, and National Geographic, further establishing her as a significant voice in contemporary photography. Her award-winning series, "Drummies," explores the vibrant world of female drum majorette teams in Cape Town. This body of work received the Lensculture Emerging Photographer Prize (2018) and the PHMuseum Women’s ‘New Generation’ Prize for emerging photographers (2018). Notably, four images from "Drummies" earned first place at the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize (2018) and were honored with the Grand Prix at the 34th Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography (2019). In late 2021, Mann held her first solo exhibition of this series at Kunsthal Rotterdam, coinciding with the release of her debut monograph, "Drummies," published by the acclaimed GOST Books. Mann's work is included in esteemed collections such as the JP Morgan Art Collection, Florian de Saint Pierre, Agnès b, and the Getty Museum, solidifying her status as a leading figure in contemporary photographic art.
