Bio

"“Life is Beautiful, take pictures” – a mantra that encapsulates the profound philosophy of Italian photographer Alex Majoli. Renowned for his striking visual narratives, Majoli is a prominent member of Magnum Photos, celebrated for his poignant documentation of war and conflict across the globe. His body of work spans critical historical moments, including the harrowing Kosovo War in the early '90s, the closing of an asylum in Leros, Greece, where he captured the delicate reintegration of former inmates into society in 1999, and the tumultuous fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2001. These powerful stories reflect not just the chaos of conflict, but the resilience of the human spirit. Majoli’s photographic journey began at the tender age of 15 when he trained under the esteemed Daniele Casadio. His creative path led him to join the F45 studio and pursue formal studies at the Art Institute in Ravenna, where he earned his degree. This foundation propelled him to South America, where he embarked on his ongoing personal project, *Requiem in Samba*, blending photography with a series of evocative short films and documentaries. His published works include the impactful *One Vote* (Filigranes Editions, 2004) and *Leros* (Trolley, Italy & Phaidon, UK, 1999/2003), as well as *Congo*, a collaboration with Paolo Pellegrin released by Aperture in 2015. Majoli’s images have graced the pages of prominent magazines such as Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, Granta, and National Geographic, as well as high-profile publications like Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Wallpaper. In addition to his editorial work, Majoli has lent his artistic vision to an array of commercial clients, including Nike and Burberry, infusing each project with a unique sense of premium storytelling. Currently based in New York, Alex Majoli continues to explore the complexities of the human experience through his lens, capturing the beauty that persists amid the shadows of conflict."
