Frank Frances, Photographer, Los Angeles

About

This photograph by Frank Frances, captured in Los Angeles, presents an intimate view of an art studio with a canvas resting on a wooden easel. The prominent oil painting depicts a Black woman seated against a dark background, rendered with textured brushwork and deep tones. In the foreground, a wooden work table is cluttered with art supplies including tubes of paint, a glass of water, paintbrushes, and scattered papers. Natural light streams in from a large window to the right, which looks out onto a sunlit balcony with green foliage and the distant ocean horizon.
